Alcohol Detox is the First Step to Recovery
Come to SSH for Safe Detox Help in the San Jose Area
Yes, you can detox from alcohol abuse. It’s not easy…breaking a long-standing pattern never is. Many people continue to drink for years just to avoid withdrawal symptoms. If you or a loved one drinks because they’re afraid of withdrawal, it is completely natural.
We can help. Detox is the first step in recovery.
The US Department of Health and Human Services lists three steps in the detoxification process:
- Evaluation: Upon beginning alcohol detox, a patient (you) is first tested to see which specific substances are presently circulating in their bloodstream and the amount. Clinicians also evaluate the patient for potential co-occurring disorders, dual diagnosis, and mental/behavioral issues.
- Stabilization: In this stage, the patient is guided through the process of detoxification. This may be done with or without the use of medications, but with medication is more common. At this time, you’re told what to expect during treatment and the recovery process. Where appropriate, close friends or family are brought in for support.
- Guiding Patient into Recovery Treatment: The last step of the detox process is to ready the patient for long-term recovery. As alcohol detoxification only deals with the physical dependency and addiction, it does not address the psychological aspects of alcoholism. This stage entails obtaining agreement from the patient to complete the process by enrolling in a drug rehabilitation program.
Detox Starts With Stabilization
First, we stabilize the alcoholic before they can fully take part in, and benefit from, a rehab program. Many of our patients are heavy drinkers (and sometimes drug users as well), which means that they must go through medically supervised detox as part of the recovery process.
Support from family and friends is important all throughout the recovery process…but most important during the detox.
A Safe and Comfortable Environment for Alcohol Detox
At Support Systems Homes, our goal is to provide a safe and comfortable environment for those going through the detoxification process. That’s why our specially trained and medically qualified staff helps recovering alcoholics through the process of detoxing.
Helpful Technology and Supportive People
For a successful detox, we use cutting-edge protocols and have expert clinical personnel, a safe, supportive environment; and an introduction to the principles of recovery. Through our effective recovery programs, we provide recovery treatment for all those willing to change their lives.
Counseling and Education
Each patient is assigned a counselor to work with during their stay with Support Systems Homes. All patients are encouraged to participate in educational groups and group counseling sessions. During the detox process, you’ll work with your counselor to develop an individualized treatment plan.
You’ll learn to identify relapse “triggers” and how to cope with them in a healthy way (instead of returning to drinking or drug use).
You’ll also receive information and education about longer term treatment designed to promote long-term recovery from alcoholism and addiction.
