Alcohol Detox, San Jose, CA
Support Systems Homes Detox
Many people continue to drink for years specifically so they can avoid symptoms of withdrawal.
Breaking a long-standing pattern is not easy. If you or a loved one are experiencing fear of withdrawal symptoms, it is completely natural. We can help.
Detox is the first step in recovery from alcohol abuse.
The United States Department of Health and Human Services lists three steps in detoxification process:
- Evaluation: Upon beginning detoxification, the patient is first tested to see which specific substances are presently circulating in their bloodstream and the amount. Clinicians also evaluate the patient for potential co-occurring disorders, dual diagnosis, and mental/behavioral issues.
- Stabilization: In this stage, the patient is guided through the process of detoxification. This may be done with or without the use of medications but for the most part the former is more common. Also part of stabilization is explaining to the patient what to expect during treatment and the recovery process. Where appropriate, people close to the addict are brought in at this time to become involved and show support.
- Guiding Patients into Recovery Treatment: The last step of the detoxification process is to ready the patient for the actual recovery process. Detoxification only deals with the physical dependency and addiction to alcohol, it does not address the psychological aspects of addiction.
Detox Starts With Stabilization
It is important to first stabilize alcoholics before they can fully take part in, and benefit from, a rehab program. Many of our patients are heavy drinkers and drug users, which means that they must go through medically supervised detox as part of the recovery process.
Support from family and friends is important during this time and throughout the rest of the recovery process as well.
Being in the Right Environment
At Support Systems Homes, our goal is to provide a safe and comfortable environment for those going through the detoxification process. That’s why our specially trained and medically qualified staff helps recovering alcoholics through the process of detoxing.
Helpful Technology and Supportive People
For a successful detox, we use cutting-edge protocols and have expert clinical personnel, a safe, supportive environment; and an introduction to the principles of recovery. Through our effective recovery programs, we provide recovery treatment for all those willing to change their lives.
Counseling and Education
Each patient is assigned a counselor to work with during their stay with Support Systems Homes. All patients are encouraged to participate in educational groups and group counseling sessions. During the detox process, you’ll work with your counselor to develop an individualized treatment plan.
You’ll learn to identify relapse “triggers” and how to cope with them in a healthy way (instead of returning to drinking or drug use).
You’ll also receive information and education about longer term treatment designed to promote long-term recovery from alcoholism and addiction.
